WhatsKey Inc. Ltd was a European cybersecurity startup founded to redefine physical access control through a passwordless, biometric-first identity provider (IDP). The company aimed to eliminate traditional credentials—such as keys, cards, and passwords—by leveraging biometric authentication.
At the core of WhatsKey's innovation was the Stable Bit Vector (SBV), a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based method designed to make biometric authentication deterministic. This approach allowed for authentication without storing users' biometric data in infrastructure vaults, significantly reducing privacy risks associated with conventional biometric systems. The SBV technology was released as open source, reflecting the company's commitment to transparency and community collaboration.
Additionally, WhatsKey filed a patent application with WIPO for a post-quantum identity method that builds upon the SBV approach, aiming to future-proof identity verification against emerging quantum threats.
Despite these advancements, WhatsKey ceased operations after one year due to an unsuccessful attempt to secure pre-seed funding intended for developing an advanced Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and conducting a Proof of Concept (PoC) in targeted sectors.
